I was on hand for the 15th annual Digital Be-In. Despite the dreary rainy weather, hundreds came out for a inspirational and informative 2-hour Biomimicry Symposium, featuring Janine Beynus and Paul Hawken via video link. This of course dovetailed nicely with the presentation by Paul Hawken who discussed the theme of his newly released book Blessed Unrest and also the official launch of the WISER Earth Portal. The highlight of the event however, was Janine Benyus of the Biomimicry Institute. Her latest book is “Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature.” Several other noted eco-visionaries presented including the Bainbridge Graduate Institute’s Gifford Pinchot, who pointed out that the idea of designing for human scale was a vital consideration in any true sustainable development. The highlight of the event was Scott Fossel’s Green Century Institute presentation which featured various ecocity projects around the world. The Be-In included a parallel event in the Second Life online virtual world, live blogs and a live stream of the Symposium posted to www.Urth.TV
